To my customers and
friends...
I'm currently working on improvements to the
site, but all the order links and everything should work.
If you're trying to look at something and it's all black, drop
me an email and I'll fix the page for you and email you back
letting you know it's done. I know waiting is frustrating,
but I'm doing some neat stuff that will get even neater with
time.
What I'm doing with the
changes...
I was puzzled for a long time about how to do my
jewelry site in a way that was really "me" and expressed a
little bit of what it was like to be an artist. There were
site designs I've loved that were more colorful, but none really
captured what I wanted. I wanted something in earthy tones
with lots of great art, but I can't figure out how to
incorporate my sketches with color in a way that achieves the
look I want, so I decided to go with the "paper and pencil" look
you see here since that's how many of these exquisite baubles
begin: napkins and envelopes with sketches and notes, little
bits of paper everywhere. Somehow most of them manage to
pop through the veil into reality so you and I can wear them and
enjoy them. I have customers that argue with me over this
point, but wow... I don't think there's a soul on the planet
that enjoys wearing these creations as much as I do.
The jewelry drawings at this site are scans of
my original jewelry sketches from the design stages of many of
my pieces. I'll keep adding more as I go. I think
it'll be kind of fun for you to see how similar to it's sketch a
piece actually turns out, even as far as scale goes. The
real piece is a blast of sparkle and color that isn't captureI haven't
always sketched each piece before I made it, but I need the
sketching practice so I've made a goal for myself to eventually
sketch every existing piece as well as any new pieces.
When you look at the jewelry items, if there's a sketch of the
item, I'll put it either as the background for the item
description or as another view of the picture.
About the non-jewelry
drawings on this site...
There are some other drawings too... tucked here
and there on the site. Those are done by a terrific local artist
named Linnea Smith, who just so happens to be my very charming
daughter-in-law. You can see more of her work at her site
www.bumblecrumpet.com. I told her I always dreamed of
a head with flowing hair to represent floating through ether.
In like 5 minutes, she made me the drawing you see in the
sidebar to the left. I'm hoping she'll draw more for me or
let me post more of her things so you can see the beautiful work
she does. Her misty swirls and wistful faces kind of
complement my jewelry and art, so it's nice to put them
together. She could do beautiful work for you
too. |
