Jewelry Weaves: A Maille Primer for Beginners
by Cynthia Clinton

In this book we will be studying four basic weaves that spring from the same 2-in-2 base.  They look impressively complex, but you will soon see how very simple they are.  In fact, after you master them, maille will never look the same again.  Speed down to order links.

What you'll find in this book:
  • Step-by-step instructions for four popular weaves : 2-in-2, Byzantine, Box, and Diamondback (double link cross chain) with photographs every step of the way.

  • A tools section that explains about the different tools, what is important, what is essential, how to improvise where possible.

  • Step-by-step photos for Koil Kutter operating instructions.

  • Ideas for makeshift mandrels and what low-cost alternatives are the best.

  • Detailed instructions for how you can wind and cut rings with just your hands and a minimum of tools.

  • Step-by-step instructions for finishing touches so you can make your jewelry 100% handmade, such as clasps, bead links, dangles, s-hooks, and ear wires.

  • An inspirational gallery courtesy of some distinguished maillers.

  • A handy way to "chart" weaves and why you should make your own.

  • Packed with supplemental insight into maille making that will give you guidance on design principals and having a greater understanding of maille.

  • A list of a few good wire-suppliers as well as some helpful info about wire.

  • Images of the Koil Kutter and how you can get your own.

  • An opportunity to enter images of your work into our student gallery... who knows... perhaps you may be invited to participate in the gallery section of a future book!

You'll also get a glossary, find links to how to get a Koil Kutter of your very own, and more!

How to Read Our CD Books

It's easy!  You don't need to be connected to the internet to read them - all you  need is your browser.  Our CD's are readable in all CD-R/CD-RW drives and Multi-Read CD-ROM drives.  Whether you pop in a disc or click on the icon to open a downloadable book, the instructions are the same.

  1. Click START, then RUN (be sure and browse to the drive your CD-ROM is on).

  2. Click BROWSE and double-click on the book title, then at the bottom where it says FILES OF TYPE, select ALL FILES.

  3. Double-click on INDEX, then on OKAY.  Your book will open in your browser window and you can navigate it just like a web site.

It isn't difficult to read our CD books and it's actually easier to find information than in traditional print format.  Not only that, but the pictures are better!
